Nicolás Fiz

Dr. Nicolás Fiz studied Medicine at the University of Navarre, graduating in 2002. He specialized in Traumatology and Orthopedic Surgery at Santiago Hospital in Vitoria-Gasteiz and, during his residency, he worked part-time in research and assistance at Dr. Mikel Sánchez’s Arthroscopic Surgery Unit. In 2007, he traveled to the United States and completed his training at the Special Surgery Hospital in New York, where he worked with a special emphasis on hip pathology.

From 2008, he worked as an assistant in the Traumatology Department of Santiago Hospital in Vitoria-Gasteiz, and has joined Dr. Mikel Sánchez’s team as an assistant physician.

Later, in 2009, he joined the Arthroscopic Surgery Unit (UCA) and the Advanced Biological Therapy Unit (UTBA) full time, creating the Hip Unit together with Dr. Jorge Guadilla withing Arthroscopic Surgery Unit. He is involved in the development of PRP technology for various diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Similarly, together with the UCA team, he participates in the innovation of various surgical techniques and has co-authored several publications. He plays an active role in the Arthroscopic Surgery Unit’s preclinical and clinical research.

In 2023 he obtained his PhD degree from the University of the Basque Country with the qualification of Outstanding Cum Laude with the work: "Platelet Rich Plasma in Severe Hip Osteoarthritis: Biological Action and Therapeutic Perspectives".

Throughout his professional career, he has been invited to speak at various scientific gatherings and conferences. Furthermore, he is co-author of several papers of international acclaim, and is a member of SECOT, the Spanish Society of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology and AEA, Spanish Association of Arthroscopy.
